Dr. Courtney Hammond

Dr. Courtney Hammond is an optometrist in our Newark location and practices family optometry with a special interest in pediatrics and specialty contact lenses. Dr. Hammond was born and raised in Newark, Ohio and joined our practice initially during her high school years as a technician and front desk assistant. She attended Licking Valley High School where she ultimately graduated with honors as the salutatorian of her class. She then went on to Miami University (OH) where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in zoology and was actively involved in various organizations and extracurricular activities including research in visual psychophysics. Dr. Hammond earned her
Doctorate of Optometry degree as a cum laude graduate of the University of the Incarnate Word Rosenberg School of Optometry in San Antonio,
Texas. During her time there, Courtney was the recipient of several awards recognizing her academic and clinical excellence and was invited into the Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society and the Beta
Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. She also served as student body president, lead teaching assistant of clinical skills to her fellow colleagues and received the university leadership award for her class.

Dr. Hammond completed externships in several different modes of practice throughout her education. She studied at the Southern Eye
Institute in Memphis, Tennessee where she gained a strong understanding of ocular disease and treatment. While there, she participated in
tertiary eye care including comprehensive eye examinations, glaucoma, retinal, cataract and Lasik evaluations, and helped manage pre- and
post-operative visits. Dr. Hammond also completed externships at the UIW Eye Institute, the San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind, and the Fayetteville VA Hospital in North Carolina where she gained valuable experience in the diagnosis of eye disease as it pertains to overall
systemic health. Following graduation, Dr. Hammond returned to join our private practice and has participated in patient care in all three of
our locations.

Dr. Hammond now resides in Westerville with her husband and their puppy. When she is not in clinic, she prefers to spend quality time with her extended family and friends and she also enjoys traveling, volunteering within the community and attending concerts and sporting events (especially anything in Cleveland).
