Choosing the Right Eyeglasses for Your Face Shape

Do you have trouble finding the best eyeglasses for your face shape? People who wear eyeglasses change their eyewear every two to three years. Normally, the face structure and shape tend to change as people age. When it is time to get new glasses, they want to make sure they choose the right frames for their face shapes.

Of course, you have to take into account the reason you need eyeglasses and your visual health. You’ll be happy to know that there is a frame for everyone. There are five face shapes, including diamond, heart, round, square, and oval. Before you can get the right frames for you, you need to determine which face shape you have.

How to Assess Your Facial Structure

The truth is that nobody has the perfect shape. Meaning you cannot be perfectly round, square, heart, or any other defined category. You will find that most faces can take a combination of different shapes. For example, some have tapered jaws and angular features, while some may have tall foreheads and rounded chins.

This can make it difficult to tell the exact shape of your face. You don’t have to be accurate when determining the shape of your face. Look at the mirror and choose a shape that looks the most like yours. The key to choosing the right pair of frames for your face shape is achieving balance.

Guidelines to Use When Choosing Frames for Your Face Shape:

  • Diamond - This shape features a small forehead and chin, with a narrow eye-line. For this face shape, you can choose frames that are heavier on top and frames that are round or straight.

  • Round - You have a round face if the width and length of your face are equal in proportion. Generally, this shape has few angles. For this face shape, you can choose frames that make your face look thinner and longer.

  • Oval - Oval-shaped faces are considered to have balanced proportions. For this face shape, choose frames that are slightly wider than your face. The frames should also be wide.

  • Oblong - A face is considered to be oblong-shaped when it is longer than it is wide. Choose frames that are deeper to make your face appear shorter.

  • Triangle - Triangular faces have high cheekbones, wider foreheads, and gradually narrow towards the chin. The perfect glasses for this type of face shape are those that are thick below the eyes. It is recommended to choose frames with light colors.

Other Factors to Consider When Choosing the Right Eyeglasses

There are many other factors that you can consider when choosing the perfect eyeglasses other than the shape of your face. The color of your eyes and your personal style will play an important role in the type of eyeglasses you choose.

Don’t forget that the glasses you choose should suit your personality. Choosing the right eyeglasses should not be a daunting task; rather, it should be fun. If you put on eyeglasses and you like them, go for it. You should see your eye doctor at least twice a year to check your prescription.
